The Mum Who Gets It

Hiya, my name is Rachel, and SEN in the City was created from lived experience as both a parent and a professional.

I’m a mum to my world, my son Caleb, who has additional needs and is the reason I understand this life so deeply. Like many SEND parents, I didn’t choose this journey, but I’ve learned to navigate it with resilience, determination, and love.

Despite my professional background in education, mentoring and family support, I still found myself overwhelmed by systems, constantly advocating, explaining, and questioning whether I was doing enough.

I understand the practical side — the endless forms, paperwork, meetings, reports and planning. I know what it feels like to sit up at 2am filling out yet another form, second-guessing every answer. Wondering if you’ve written the “right” thing. Feeling like you’re getting everything wrong. Feeling like life is just a bit unfair.

You grow a thicker skin than you ever wanted to. You learn terminology you never asked to know. And you carry a quiet strength most people never see.

Sometimes you just need someone who truly understands. 💬
